President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the government has built 74 embungs only in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), one of them is Embung Saina, in Oelolot Village, West Rote.
“We saw earlier around this embung the community welcomed by making new fields, then planting. On top of that I see planting maize, below I see rice-rice has begun to be planted, “said President Jokowi told reporters after reviewing Embung Saina, in Oelolot Village, West Rote, Tuesday (9/1) morning.
According to the President, the construction of this embung to prepare irrigation, both for rice fields and for gardens, but also for livestock. He asked the reporters to see the time of the afternoon, when many of the animals enter the embung to look for water.
“The key in NTT, in Rote Ndao District is the key one, only water. If there is water I think the affairs of agriculture, the affairs of the garden, also raw water I think will be resolved. But with the existing 74 embung we expect agricultural productivity, the garden will also increase, “explained the President.
According to the President, there is still more embung development, 24 more in NTT. He mentioned, in NTT (there are) 1,100 embungs like this. “The key is there, NTT is one key, water,” he said.
In this review, the President was accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Chief of Staff of the Presidency of Teten Masduki, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Frans Lebu Raya, and Rote Ndao Lens Haning Regent.
